Apple launches trial production of smartphones in India to tackle iPhone 13 shortage

The Economic Times, citing the words of two industry leaders, reports that Apple is launching a trial production of iPhone 13 smartphones in India.

What does it mean?

According to the newspaper, production starts at the Foxconn plant near Chennai. So far, only in test mode, but by February the process should be fully established. Apple secured supplies of semiconductor chips that are in short supply around the world, which helped it plan for expansion.

First of all, the production was moved in order to satisfy the demand in India itself, because recently there has been a certain shortage of new models. Therefore, the factory will only assemble the base iPhone 13, which is the most popular in the Indian market. iPhone 13 mini, 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max still will be assembled only in China.

Incidentally, Apple is already producing the iPhone 11 and iPhone 12 at Foxconn and the iPhone SE at the Wistron plant in Bangalore. It is estimated that Apple manufactures nearly 70% of the smartphones it sells domestically in India. But this time, the Indian-made iPhones 13 will be sold in other countries as well.
