At one time, Essential, which sometime led by Android creator Andy Rubin, released the disastrous Essential Phone PH-1. And although the company has already sunk into oblivion, its developers have teamed up and created a new startup Osom Products. Moreover, they are actively preparing their first product, and this is again a smartphone.

What will it be?

AndroidPolice reporters talked to the head of Osom Products, Jason Keats, and he willingly shared details about the new product and even showed a render.

So this is OSOM OV1, which looks like a regular smartphone. It will receive a dual main camera, designed in the form of a triangular block, a fingerprint scanner on the back, an unnamed Qualcomm processor, an Android operating system and pre-installed Google services.

But the creators of this brainchild (including Andy Rubin, by the way) focus on privacy. Keats said the device will be "100 times more powerful" than competing Android smartphonesallowing users to always know what information is being accessed.

“Everyone has things that they just don’t need on the Internet - for example, since I travel a lot, I have a photo of my passport, my green cards, my driver's license. I have everything and I hate to know that they live on Google Drive. And that Google probably has access to them. And if something go wrong, anyone with access to google will have access to everything. Everyone has such things - not necessarily photographs: these are files, these are medical data, these are financial data. All we do is help the user to manage what is transmitted and what is not, ”the head of the company emphasized.

While there are not many details about OSOM OV1, they promise to reveal the cards at the MWC in February. The smartphone is still under development and the rendering is based on the first working prototype, so there are many factors that could change. But the team's goal is to bring the gadget to the market by the summer of 2022.
