OpenAI warned Microsoft about the premature launch of a chatbot in the Bing search engine
At the beginning of the year, OpenAI warned Microsoft of its hasty integration of the GPT-4 multimodal model into the Bing search engine.
Here's What We Know
Although Microsoft didn't listen to its partner, the startup's fears were not unfounded. Shortly after the launch, users noted Bing's "unbalanced" behaviour. In addition, a new report details "conflicts and confusion" behind the scenes of the companies' alliance.
Nevertheless, the shaky launch of the GPT-4 integration into Bing has benefited the corporation. Within days, the search engine's audience increased by 15%. At the same time, the Bing mobile app was downloaded 750,000 times, including a peak of 150,000 daily installations, within the first week of launch.
The fact that the search engine has become an acclaimed product - after years in Google's shadow - is a great achievement in itself.
"When we grow, it helps [OpenAI], and when they grow, it helps us," said Microsoft CFO Amy Hood.
