US senator urges Congress to speed up artificial intelligence regulation

US Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has launched an initiative to regulate artificial intelligence aimed at balancing economic competitiveness and security.
Here's What We Know
Schumer called on his colleagues to create new rules to regulate the burgeoning artificial intelligence industry. The lawmaker presented a plan that contains no specific policy requirements. Instead, he is asking his colleagues to work together to address a range of potential AI risks - from national security and job losses to misinformation, bias and copyright.
Schumer said he will hold a series "AI Insight Forums" later this year. These are designed to bring together experts and lawmakers to help shape the new rules.
