The organisers of the Wimbledon tennis tournament are teaming up with IBM to use AI as a commentator in all of their online coverage.

Here's What We Know

The service will be available on the Wimbledon app and website separately from the BBC broadcasts. It is based on IBM's watsonx platform, which has been trained in "unique language of tennis" in collaboration with the All England Club.

The system will collect a lot of data during the game and transmit it to the IBM platform. The information will then be processed by the company's artificial intelligence models and the results will be sent to a special chatbot, which will create comments in natural language.

Another algorithm will voice the generated texts.

The AI will also analyse singles draws, examining how favourable a tennis player's path to the final may be.

The Wimbledon tournament will run from July 3 to 16.
