US presidential election will become a mess because of AI and misinformation, says former Google chief Eric Schmidt

Former Google CEO Eric Schmidt believes that misinformation around the 2024 election will be massive as new tools have made advanced artificial intelligence more accessible.

"The 2024 elections are going to be a mess because social media is not protecting us from false generated AI," Schmidt said.

He said platform owners are working on a solution to the problem, but so far without success. Schmidt also criticised them for reducing trust and security groups.

Despite widespread concerns about the long-term impact of AI on society, the businessman said the short-term danger of the technology was misinformation.
