Shutterstock has extended its partnership with OpenAI for six years, allowing the company to train its AI models on images, video, music and metadata from the service during that timeframe.

Here's What We Know

Shutterstock's collaboration with OpenAI began in 2021. At that time, the photo bank allowed the company to use its images to train the DALL-E text-to-image model.

Last year, Shutterstock launched a "Contributor Fund" to compensate artists whose work is used to train OpenAI's algorithms. At the same time, the photo marketplace integrated DALL-E directly into its website and banned the sale of AI images that were not created using the inbuilt tool.

Now Shutterstock is expanding that integration and says it will give users the ability to "edit and transform any image in the entire Shutterstock library" The company also plans to add artificial intelligence features to animation creation platform Giphy, which it acquired from Meta earlier this year.
