Bill Gates called artificial intelligence the most breakthrough technology in history
Bill Gates has joined the ranks of technology luminaries who have spoken out on the risks associated with artificial intelligence.
Here's What We Know
The billionaire claims that AI is the most breakthrough technology we will see in our lifetime. According to him, humanity should be concerned about more immediate risks rather than long-term risks.
Gates gave examples of how society dealt with change when calculators, word processors and spam came along.
However, he did not deny the existence of long-term risks, such as superintelligence or conflicting goals between AI and humanity. According to Gates, in an attempt to prevent the rise of machines, one should not forget about more pressing problems. Among them, the businessman cited AI's impact on education, employment and misinformation.
Gates also called for swift but careful global regulation of the technology. Governments and businesses should support people who may be affected by changes in the labour market or learning process, he said.
