Mobileye has taught artificial intelligence to read road signs to adjust car speeds
Unmanned vehicle technology developer Mobileye has unveiled a new system designed to determine the correct speed limit.
Here's What We Know
Intelligent Speed Assist (ISA) not only automatically reads the numbers on speed signs, but can also decipher illustrated signs. Based on this information, the system automatically adjusts the vehicle's speed.
In addition to recognising signs in the camera's field of view, the system can determine signatures of future signs, read text when entering a city, and make decisions based on the type of road even when there are no signs.
According to Mobileye, 400 petabytes of globally recorded driving videos were used in the development of ISA.
ISA is certified in 27 EU countries, as well as Israel, Norway, Switzerland, Israel and Turkey. The system will first be integrated by "a major global auto group into two vehicle brands," and then begin to be fitted to some models in Europe later this year.
ISA is scheduled to be released on vehicles from the other three carmakers by 2024.
