Pentagon agency DARPA has announced a two-year competition for artificial intelligence experts to create new ways to strengthen global cybersecurity.

Here's What We Know

Contestants are asked to create tools to identify and fix holes in software so hackers can't exploit them. A total of $18.5 million will be awarded to the winners in various categories.

According to a DARPA spokesperson, the best tools will be published in the public domain. This will improve cybersecurity around the world, the agency said.

DARPA programme manager Perri Adams said the project aims to help experts defend themselves against the growing number of creative hackers.

The competition will officially end at the Def Con hacker conference in Las Vegas in August 2025.
