Detroit (Michigan) Police Chief James White will set new rules for facial recognition technology after an eight-month pregnant woman said she was wrongly accused of robbing and stealing a car.

Here's What We Know

White said the technology provided leads in the case but was followed by "very poor" police work.

"We want to ensure that nothing like this happens again," he said.

White said officers will be prohibited from using images captured by facial recognition technology in photographic lineups. Also, if the technology is used in an investigation, two captains will review the warrant.

The new rules will soon go before the Detroit Board of Police Commissioners.
