The crash caused Snapchat's My AI chatbot to begin posting Stories
The Snapchat Plus app's digital assistant My AI started posting one-second Stories to users' feeds and then disappeared for a long time.
Here's What We Know
The My AI chatbot posted a two-colour image to Stories, which one user mistook for a shot of their ceiling. When asked about the mysterious message, the bot either remained silent or cited technical issues.
This explanation proved insufficient for many users, causing mild panic and jokes about an imminent artificial intelligence uprising. In the end, however, it did turn out to be a technical error.
"My AI experienced a temporary outage that’s now resolved," a spokesperson said and added that the chatbot does not support the Stories feature.
My AI is part of Snapchat Plus, which costs $3.99 per month and offers users a number of features. Among them are AR filter recommendations, restaurant suggestions and Snap Map-based events.
