Meta has released an artificial intelligence-based Seamless M4T algorithm that translates tests and speech into 100 languages.
Here's What We Know
Seamless M4T is released under a Creative Commons licence. This allows researchers and developers to utilise Meta's developments.
Seamless M4T supports:
- speech recognition for nearly 100 languages;
- speech-to-text translation for nearly 100 input and output languages:
- speech-to-text translation supporting nearly 100 input languages and 36 output languages;
- text to text translation for nearly 100 languages;
- text-to-speech translation supporting nearly 100 input languages and 35 output languages.
According to Meta's scientific director Paco Guzmán, the big breakthrough in Seamless M4T is that it does not rely on intermediate models to produce results. This allows the algorithm to be flexible, such as understanding language changes on the fly.
