Snapchat has unveiled the Dreams AI tool to turn selfies into fantasy images
Snapchat has added a new generative artificial intelligence feature called Dreams to the app, which turns users' selfies into "fantasy images".
Here's What We Know
The feature is available in the Memories section. With it, users can take selfies showing their face from different angles, and then the app will create a series of eight images based on themes such as "time travel" or "alternate universes".
Eventually, Snap claims, users will be able to create group shots with friends or family members.
Dreams will have both a free and paid version. Regular users will only have access to one "pack" of eight selfies, while Snapchat+ subscription holders will have access to one pack per month. Everyone will also be able to purchase additional packs for $0.99.
Dreams uses open source tools and internal data. However, the company did not provide other technical details.
In practice, the feature has the same drawbacks as other AI-based image generators. In the promotional image published by Snap, the fingertips of the hands are strangely placed on the subject's chest.
