Zoom has unveiled an artificial intelligence-based tool that can summarise meetings and write messages

Zoom has updated and rebranded several of its artificial intelligence-based tools, including the generative AI assistant formerly known as Zoom IQ.

Here's What We Know

Zoom IQ is now called AI Companion. The tool is powered by its own generative AI as well as models from vendors like Meta, OpenAI, and Anthropic.

AI Companion's capabilities extend to all new products in the Zoom ecosystem, including Zoom Whiteboard, Zoom Team Chat, and Zoom Mail.

In spring 2024, the company will add a conversational interface to the app that will allow you to communicate directly with the AI, ask questions about previous meetings and chats, and perform actions on behalf of the user.

For example, the AI Companion can be asked for information about the status of projects, drawing on transcripts from meetings, chats, boards, emails, documents, and even third-party apps. Users will be able to ask questions of the digital assistant during a meeting to clarify key points, create and submit support requests, and compose responses to queries.

AI Companion can also summarise meetings, automatically identifying action items and suggesting next steps.

Next spring, AI Companion will provide "real-time feedback" on people's attendance at meetings. The tool will also be able to coach users on conversation and presentation skills.

In the Zoom Team Chat messaging app, users will be able to summarise conversations using AI Companion. This feature will be available within a few weeks.

The Zoom Whiteboard collaboration tool will add the ability to generate images and fill in templates using artificial intelligence in spring 2024. It's unclear what model will be used for this feature.

Most of the AI Companion features will be implemented in the sidebar of the Zoom app. Only paid Zoom customers will have access to them.
