BMW will build its semi-autonomous driver assistance system on Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud computing technology.

Here's What We Know

The next-generation Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) will be installed in the Neue Klasse family of electric cars, which will begin production in 2025. BMW uses AWS resources to store and process large data sets.

The automaker has chosen Qualcomm's Snapdragon Ride platform as its hardware platform.

BMW announced its own ADAS system amid a push by traditional automakers to improve driver assistance technology to compete with Tesla.

Flashback

ADAS is a software system that can offer driver assistance with actions such as changing lanes or parking. Automakers are looking to introduce more of these features as autonomous driving advances.

ADAS requires a lot of data processing because the software relies on hardware, including cameras and semiconductors. Artificial intelligence processes play a key role in creating autonomous driving systems.
