Spanish prosecutors are investigating whether it is an offence to distribute AI-generated images of naked underage girls to teenagers.
Here's What We Know
The cause was complaints from the families of girls whose nude photos were fabricated by AI and circulated on social networks and chat rooms to minors in the city of Almendralejo. Police revealed that teenagers aged 13-15 were behind the creation of the images.
A similar case is being investigated in Madrid.
The Public Prosecutor's Office will analyse the material and decide whether it is possible to investigate and charge minors over the age of 14. Under that age, they are not prosecuted.
According to the mother of one of the victims, this should be part of the national political agenda as it touches on the issues of bullying, the hypersexualisation of children and access to pornography.
