Microsoft is developing its own Athena chip for artificial intelligence tasks. According to media reports, the announcement may take place at the Ignite conference in November.

Here's What We Know

Athena is designed to train language models and support inference - key tasks of generative AI. According to sources, the chip has already undergone internal testing at Microsoft and OpenAI.

Athena is expected to be more efficient than existing AI processors. It will save Microsoft time and money in developing AI applications.

Other major tech companies including Amazon and Google are also building their own AI chips to compete with leader Nvidia.
