Google has unveiled Magnifier, an app to make reading text easier on Pixel smartphones. It allows you to magnify and improve the legibility of small or distant text.

The app debuted on the Pixel 8 series phones unveiled at the event The app debuted on the Pixel 8 series phones announced this week. It lets you zoom in on small text, see details of objects, or zoom in on distant text like street signs.

The interface includes buttons to zoom, turn on the flash, and switch cameras. Brightness, contrast and colour filters are available in the settings.

Once captured, text can be copied, tapped, or sent to Google Lens. Saved photos don't go into the camera feed, but you can save them in a separate folder.

Magnifier works on Pixel 5 and newer, except for the Pixel Fold and Pixel Tablet. It's not yet known if the app will be available on other Android devices.
