Cruise has opened a commercial drone car service in Houston. The service is available overnight in a limited area.
Here's What We Know
Cruise's robotaxis will operate between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. seven days a week in an area of about 28.5 square kilometres in Houston. The exact number of vehicles has not been disclosed, but it is known that Cruise has a total of about 400 vehicles in the tri-state area.
Cruise entered the Texas market in late 2022, starting trials in Austin. In May, the company launched test rides with a driver in Houston and Dallas. It then moved on to driverless trials and offered the first rides to employees.
Now anyone can order a Cruise robotaxi via a mobile app. Flat rates of $5 per ride are available to stimulate demand.
