German Chancellor Olaf Scholz may be opting out of a major UK summit on artificial intelligence security on November 1.

Here's What We Know

The event will bring together technology leaders, academics and policymakers. There, they plan to discuss specific threats from the rapid development of AI technology and how to counter them.

On the first day, there will be discussions with representatives from companies and academics. On the second day, a small group including world leaders will hold meetings led by UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

So far, Scholz's participation is unconfirmed and unlikely. This could cause a domino effect and affect the presence of other leaders, media reports said.

Germany wants to avoid conflicts with G7 and EU initiatives to regulate AI. A senior representative is likely to attend the summit instead of the chancellor.

The UK expects to cement itself as a key mediator on AI issues. However, Germany may not be ready for such coordination.
