NVIDIA said the US has ordered the company to immediately halt exports of certain advanced artificial intelligence chips to China without waiting for previously announced restrictions to take effect.

Here's What We Know

On 17 October, the US administration imposed a ban on shipments of AI chips from NVIDIA, AMD and other manufacturers to China, Russia and Iran. The restrictions were supposed to take effect in 30 days.

Now, however, NVIDIA says that the U.S. authorities have demanded an immediate halt to exports of some chips. The reasons for the accelerated timeline were not disclosed.

The ban applies to NVIDIA's modified A800 and H800 chips created for the Chinese market under the previous restrictions. The company does not expect a significant impact on revenues in the near future.

AMD, also affected by the new AI chip export rules, has not yet commented on the situation. US authorities declined to comment. Intel said it is studying the impact of the new regulations.
