Associated Press
Speaking at the AI Security Summit in the UK, US Vice President Kamala Harris announced the launch of the US Artificial Intelligence Security Institute (US AISI).
Here's What We Know
The institute will be established within the US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). Its task is to develop recommendations and standards for testing and evaluating potentially dangerous AI systems.
In particular, the institute will conduct tests on modelling cyberattacks. It will also deal with the identification of generated content, combating discrimination and ensuring transparency in the use of AI technologies.
In addition, Harris announced the release of guidelines for the use of AI in the US public sector and called on countries to support the development of global standards for authentication of AI-generated content.
According to the vice president, tech companies often prioritise profit over user safety. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen regulation of the AI sphere without hindering innovation.
Harris also said that 30 countries have already joined the US declaration on the responsible use of AI in the military sphere.
