Amazon is investing millions of dollars to train a large artificial intelligence language model called Olympus that could outperform existing counterparts, sources claim.
Here's What We Know
According to Reuters, the Olympus model has 2 trillion parameters. By comparison, OpenAI's GPT-4 has about 1 trillion.
The development is led by former Alexa head Rohit Prasad. He has combined the efforts of different Amazon divisions to create AI.
Previously, Amazon has trained smaller models like Titan. The company also works with AI startups and provides their products to customers of its AWS cloud.
According to sources, a large model of its own will make AWS' AI offerings more attractive to businesses. Specific timelines for the Olympus release are not yet known.
In April, Amazon said it plans to increase its investment in generative AI despite spending cuts in its retail segment.
