Microsoft has decided to drop the Bing Chat name for its artificial intelligence chatbot in favour of Microsoft Copilot.

Here's What We Know

Bing Chat was integrated directly into Bing search results in early 2023. This interface has now been renamed Copilot after the success of ChatGPT, which attracted 100 million users in a short time.

Microsoft is positioning the free version of Copilot as an alternative to ChatGPT, and the paid version of Copilot for Microsoft 365 as a business solution. The assistant will be accessed through a separate website copilot.microsoft.com.

Experts say that the abandonment of the Bing brand is interesting, given Microsoft's efforts to promote AI features within that search engine. However, the company is now focusing specifically on the Copilot brand, which previously became a fixture in Windows 11 and the Edge browser.

Microsoft emphasises that Bing remains an important enabling technology for Copilot. The renaming is motivated by a desire to compete more successfully with ChatGPT in the AI assistant market.
