Meta has disbanded the Responsible AI (RAI) team, which was in charge of responsible development of artificial intelligence, directing all its resources to the development of generative AI.

Here's What We Know

According to media reports, most RAI employees will move to Meta's generative AI development teams. The rest will be engaged in the company's artificial intelligence infrastructure.

Meta has repeatedly stated its commitment to responsible AI development, but the decision to dissolve RAI contradicts these statements.

Meta spokesperson Jon Carvill assured that the company continues to prioritise the safety and ethics of artificial intelligence. According to him, former RAI employees will support relevant initiatives in the new units.

The group was established in 2019 to identify and address issues related to artificial intelligence training. RAI had already undergone a restructuring earlier this year, which caused the team to shrink and lose its autonomy.
