The UK has no immediate plans to introduce regulation in the field of artificial intelligence

The UK government does not intend to introduce regulation in the field of artificial intelligence in the near future. This was stated by the First Minister for AI and Intellectual Property, Viscount Jonathan Camrose.

He said there was a risk of premature regulation, which could do more harm than good by stifling innovation. However, he did not criticise other countries' approaches.

The statement is in line with the UK's overall drive towards an AI-driven economy. In a white paper published in March, officials argued in favour of supporting innovation, noting that heavy regulation would slow AI adoption.

The UK has also set up an AI taskforce and liaised with major tech companies to gain access to cutting-edge AI models.

Meanwhile, the EU, US and China are moving towards adopting strict risk-based regulation.
