Fast food chain Wendy's is expanding testing of an artificial intelligence chatbot that will take orders at drive-thrus windows.
Here's What We Know
The technology is planned to be rolled out to franchise restaurants across America by 2024. Currently, it is operating in four Wendy's establishments around Columbus, Ohio.
The chatbot is powered by Google Cloud's AI solutions. According to the company, it is capable of processing 86 per cent of orders without staff, just above the originally reported 85 per cent.
As Wendy's notes, the chatbot uses generative AI technologies to create responses in real-time dialogue with customers. This has helped one restaurant reduce order service times by 22 seconds compared to the Columbus average.
