China uses AI to create anti-American memes on Israel and Palestine - study

According to the Institute for Strategic Dialogue (ISD), China-affiliated groups are using artificial intelligence to create and spread anti-American memes on social media about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Here's What We Know

The aim is to stir up anti-American sentiment over US President Joe Biden's support for the Israeli military operation in the Gaza Strip. The memes portray Biden as an "arms dealer" and "the only supporter of the US war".

Experts estimate that the memes were created using artificial intelligence-based image generators. Their purpose is not to deceive, but to illustrate key narratives. It is also noted that the focus of the campaigns is already the 2024 US presidential election.

Earlier, Meta deleted more than 7,000 accounts it believes are linked to disinformation operations against the US. However, experts warn that Chinese groups continue to be active in this area.
