Google is considering automating some advertising functions using artificial intelligence.

According to a report by The Information, some sales staff could either lose their jobs or be reassigned to other positions as a result of automation. In total, Google employs around 30,000 people in this division, half of whom work in ad sales.

The tech giant had earlier announced a "new era of AI-powered advertising". This will improve efficiency for advertisers, including by automatically creating personalised campaigns.

Replacing staff with artificial intelligence could boost Google's profits in the long run by increasing efficiency and reducing costs.
