Burger King has launched a 'hangover level' scanning app to give out discounts

Fast food chain Burger King in Brazil has launched a "Hangover Whopper" promotion in which a facial recognition system supposedly detects a customer's hangover and gives a personalised discount.
Here's What We Know
Until 2 January, users can take a photo in the mobile app or on the website and the system will determine their hangover status to receive a personalised promo code. According to Burger King, the "hungover" a customer looks, the higher the discount on the combo set.
However, the privacy policy states that no measurement actually takes place. According to the company, the assessment is purely "fictitious" in nature.
Burger King promises not to share users' photos with third parties. The images will only be used for the needs of the campaign.
Previously, human rights activists have repeatedly criticised facial recognition technology for threatening privacy, while noting its inaccuracy against minorities.
