NSA: Hackers use artificial intelligence to improve English in phishing schemes
Hackers and propagandists are increasingly turning to artificial intelligence-based chatbots like ChatGPT to make their actions more convincing to native English speakers. This was stated by Rob Joyce, director of cybersecurity at the US National Security Agency (NSA).
Here's What We Know
According to Joyce, the NSA observes how cybercriminals and hackers of foreign intelligence agencies use such chatbots. Thanks to them, they greatly improve their English language skills in their operations.
Hacker attacks often include phishing - tricking users into obtaining their personal data. Many experts accuse Russia of organising propaganda campaigns on the Internet on behalf of American users. According to Joyce, generative AI helps hackers create better and more convincing English-language texts for phishing and disinformation.
Joyce noted that the problem affects all major AI companies. However, he did not mention their names.
At the same time, Joyce acknowledged that AI has become a useful tool in cybersecurity, particularly for detecting malicious activity online.
