Amazon has unveiled a new artificial intelligence shopping assistant called Rufus.

Here's What We Know

The tool is designed to help users search for and purchase items. Shoppers type or speak a question into the search bar in Amazon's mobile app, and a chat box appears at the bottom of the screen.

Users can ask conversational questions such as "What are the differences between trail and road running shoes" or "Compare drip and pour-over coffee makers".

"Rufus meaningfully improves how easy it is for customers to find and discover the best products to meet their needs" according to Amazon's blog post.

Rufus uses Amazon's product catalogue, customer reviews and Q&As, as well as information from around the internet to answer questions.

Amazon is still testing the feature on a small number of users in the US. The company intends to roll it out nationwide in the coming weeks.
