Roblox has introduced instant chat translation in 16 languages using its own language model

Popular gaming platform Roblox has released its own AI translation system for real-time chat, which will allow players from different countries to communicate in their native languages.

According to Roblox CTO Daniel Sturman, the developers created a special language model based on Transformers to implement the feature. It supports 16 languages and takes into account the slang and abbreviations used in the Roblox community.

Thanks to its efficient architecture, the model translates messages almost in real time - the delay is about 100 ms. At the same time, the quality of translation exceeds the capabilities of commercial services for content in Roblox, the company claims.

In the future, the developers plan to expand the functionality of the system. It will be able to automatically translate text in images, 3D models and videos. In addition, the possibility of real-time voice chat translation will appear in the future.

Roblox was released in 2006. The platform currently has more than 70 million daily active users.
