Automattic, the owner of the popular blogging platforms Tumblr and WordPress.com, signs an agreement with Midjourney and OpenAI to use data to train artificial intelligence models. This decision caused outrage among users due to the possible violation of personal data privacy.

Automatic Software, which is working on the development of artificial intelligence, decided to turn to Tumblr and WordPress.com blogs to get fresh content to train its machine learning models.

According to unofficial reports, Automattic has already granted Midjourney and OpenAI access to some Tumblr user data, but promises to respect the privacy of personal information and provide an opt-out option for users who wish to participate.

Following the revelation, Automattic released a statement promising to protect user choice in the world of artificial intelligence. In addition, the company is installing protective mechanisms on its platforms to prevent AI companies from scanning data without user consent.

Although there are currently no clear laws governing this process, Automattic states that it is monitoring legislative changes that may affect data processing.
