Anthropic, a company specialising in artificial intelligence, has released an updated version of its chatbot Claude, which the developers claim outperforms similar systems in a number of key indicators.

Here's What We Know

The new model, called Claude 3 Opus, is particularly effective at working with scientific data, solving maths problems and writing computer code. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei said their system outperforms OpenAI's GPT-4 and Google's Gemini in these and other areas, including general knowledge.

A higher-performance version of Opus is available to subscribers for $20 a month. A lighter version, Claude 3 Sonnet, is offered for free.

Anthropic's enterprise customers will also be able to build their own chatbots based on these technologies.

Both Claude models are capable of processing not only text queries, but also analysing images, charts and graphs. However, generating visual content is still beyond their capabilities.

Anthropic is among the pioneers in the field of generative AI. Its founders previously worked as researchers at OpenAI, a company that pioneered the field with the release of ChatGPT in late 2022.
