The feature works on the basis of a visual analogy with the solar system: users are shown how "close" they are to their friends. In the image used, the friend is shown as the sun and the user's avatar as the planet, indicating their closeness. However, this concept has caused outrage due to anxiety among young people.

In response, Snapchat will disable this feature by default. Owners who want to use it will be able to activate it if they wish. However, those who do not wish to use this feature can ignore it.
