Hexagon Agency created Ukrainian emoji, which may appear on Android and iOS devices
Ukrainian digital agency Hexagon Agency created Ukrainian emoji.
What we know
We are talking about 7 symbols: fig, trident, mace, borsch, Cossack, as well as embroidery and "rushnyk".
"The new emoji are a reaction to socio-cultural change. These little pictograms have become more inclusive and represent important images for many: we saw the rainbow flag, pregnant men, skin of different colors, religious symbols, etc. Understanding the role of war, its impact and reactions to it, we can assume that there is a place for something Ukrainian besides the flag in the next version of the emoji," Hexagon Agency said in a statement.
What's interesting is that Hexagon Agency didn't just create the emoji, but also sent them to the Unicode Emoji Subcommittee. It's a group of enthusiasts and a nonprofit organization based in Silicon Valley. They gather ideas for emoji from different sources and implement them on all known platforms, including Android and iOS. We will know in October whether Unicode will approve the application or not.
