South Korean technology giant Samsung has unveiled a new 5G modem for mobile processors. It is called Exynos 5300.

Here's What We Know

The new product can operate in 5G cellular networks in the millimeter band (mmWave) and up to 6GHz (sub-6GHz). The manufacturer claims maximum upload and download speeds of 3.87Gbps and 10Gbps respectively.

The modem is manufactured using Samsung Foundry's 4nm deep ultraviolet (EUV) photolithography technology. The Exynos 5300 works in SA and NSA networks and also supports the 5G NR Release 16 standard and PCI Express interface. This allows it to be optimised to work with different processors.

Of course, the Exynos 5300 operates on fourth generation networks. In LTE the data transfer speed is 3 Gbit/s (receive) and 422 Mbit/s (upload).

At the moment, there is no official information on which smartphones will be equipped with Samsung's new modem. But if rumours are to be believed, the Exynos 5300 will appear in the Tensor 3 processor for Google's Pixel 8 flagships.
