Samsung has launched a mass production of the solid-state drive series PM1643 with a record volume of 30.72 terabytes. The solution is focused on the corporate segment.

SSD-monster

Compared with the previous generation, the Korean giant managed to double the capacity of storage devices. SSD in a 2.5-inch form factor is fastened with 512-gigabit chips of 64-layer V-NAND flash memory (16 pieces in 32 modules). Novelties use the Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) interface, the performance in random access operations is 400,000 IOPS in read mode and 50,000 IOPS when writing. The speed of sequential reading and writing reaches 2100 and 1700 megabytes per second. There is protection against data loss when the power is turned off.

SSD is able to withstand daily data rewriting for all five years of the warranty period. The Samsung PM1643 line will also feature 15.36TB, 7.68TB, 3.84TB, 1.92TB, 960GB, and 800GB models.

How much does it cost?

Samsung has decided not yet to shock the public with the prices of new drives. In 2016, the top model at 15.36 TB cost at the start of $ 10,000, but since then, memory prices have risen markedly (taking into account the doubled volume can be multiplied by three or even four).

The absolute record capacity is owned by Seagate, but shown last summer 60-terabyte SSD is still not on sale.
