Gabbo, Grem and Grok: Elon Musk's ex-girlfriend Grimes has launched a series of AI-powered cuddly toys
Singer Grimes, who has been in a relationship with Elon Musk, has launched a series of AI toys in collaboration with Curio and in partnership with OpenAI.
Here's What We Know
It is an interactive toy that is available in three characters, Gabbo, Grem and Grok. According to co-founder Curio, Grok is a friendly rocket who likes to dance and can't fly. Grem is a space alien obsessed with the colour pink. Gabbo is an interesting Pinocchio-like figure who is always looking for new friends.
Grok stands out against them, as he is named the same as Ilon Musk's company's new chatbot xAI. xAI is acting as a competitor to OpenAI with its popular ChatGPT chatbot. And as it turns out, Curio filed to trademark Grok on 12 September 2023, more than a month before xAI. Oh, that's a reminder to you not to piss off your exes.
So, the toys have "personalities" and are designed to entertain, support and help children socialise. They are able to hold a conversation on a variety of topics.
The toys are equipped with processors, batteries, microphones and speakers and require a Wi-Fi connection to function fully. The developers promise privacy and security, and allow parents to set bans on certain words and topics.
The AI toy costs $99. Pre-order acceptance has already started, and the first deliveries are expected in early 2024.
