AirPods 3 became the first Apple headphones with waterproof charging case
Last week Apple unveiled its new wireless headphones AirPods 3rd generation . Although it has been a week since the official announcement, interesting details about the new product keep popping up on the web.
IPX4 for all part
During the presentation, Apple emphasized that the AirPods 3 are water resistant with IPX4 rating. But that usually only applies to headphones. As it turns out, the IPX4 certified charging case is also certified, making the AirPods 3 the first "Apple" headphones with a waterproof case. For example, the AirPods Pro case does not officially have any protection against water, and the AirPods Pro specifications page states that the "wireless charging case and MagSafe charging case for the AirPods Pro are not resistant to sweat and water".
Meanwhile, Apple confirms that the case of the new AirPods 3 is IPX4 rated. This means that the headphones and case are not afraid of water splashes and sweat, but at the same time not protected against dust, dirt, water jets and will not survive submersion under water.
