Apple is raising prices on the App Store

Apple has announced a rate increase in the branded App Store starting October 5.

We're talking about price increases for both apps and in-app purchases. The only exceptions are automatically renewable subscriptions.

The increase will affect countries in Europe that use the euro, as well as Chile, Egypt, Japan, Malaysia, Pakistan, Poland, South Korea, Sweden and Vietnam.

On average, prices will increase by 20 percent. For example, apps that now cost 99 cents will go up to 1.19 euros, from 4.99 euros to 5.99 euros and from 14.99 euros to 17.99 euros.

Apple has not explained the reason for the price increase for most territories, except Vietnam: there the increase in tariffs reflects new laws that require the company to charge value-added tax (VAT) and corporate income tax. In Europe, it is likely due to the weakening of the euro against the dollar.
