While Apple was celebrating the successful presentation of the new generation of smartphones, trouble came from where it was not expected. The French National Agency for Frequencies (Agence nationale des frequences, ANFR) has temporarily banned sales of iPhone 12.

Here's What We Know

The regulator detected too high levels of radiation, which exceeds the established norms. The corresponding notification has already been sent to Apple.

ANFR requires to stop sales in France of smartphones iPhone 12 due to exceeding the limit of the Specific Absorption Rate (SAR). This indicator determines the energy that can be absorbed by human tissues in 1 second.

The French regulator requires Apple to fix this problem. This can be done by updating the software. Otherwise, the American company will have to recall all smartphones that were sold in France. Apple has been given two weeks to solve the problem.

The SAR limit differs from country to country. In France, it is set at 4 W/kg, while in the iPhone 12 smartphones it is 5.7 W/1kg.
