French regulator ANFR has revealed the timeline for the release of iOS 17.1 firmware, which is supposed to address the issue of elevated radiation levels on iPhone 12 smartphones.

Here's What We Know

So, ANFR officials have described Apple's plan to reduce the iPhone 12's radiation levels, and it says that the iOS 17.1 update will be available to users no later than October 24.

It all started in September when regulators in France banned iPhone 12 sales in the country. They found that the specific energy absorption ratio (SAR) of the iPhone 12 is 5.74 watts per kilogram, which is above the limit set by the European Union.

Apple assures that ANFR made a mistake in its radiation tests. The fact is that smartphones have a special function that allows you to increase the transmission power to optimise cellular communication when the gadget is not near the human body - for example, on the table. And during testing, French experts did not take into account the presence of this function.

Apple emphasises that the iPhone 12 is absolutely safe to use and has always been so. Nevertheless, the company will release iOS 17.1 firmware that will disable the transmission boost feature, but only for users in France.
