In response to a US Justice Department lawsuit accusing Apple of creating a monopoly with the iPhone, Apple has revealed that it spent three years working on Apple Watch compatibility with Android, but ultimately abandoned the idea. This was part of the company's response to a lawsuit accusing it of creating a monopoly with the iPhone, especially by making its products difficult to use with other brands.

Apple is known for its "walled garden" approach, where its devices work best within its ecosystem, but it seems to have given Android compatibility a chance, at least with the Apple Watch.

According to 9to5Mac, Apple has confirmed that it tried for three years to make the Apple Watch compatible with Android before finally abandoning the project due to "technical limitations." Since the Apple Watch only works with the iPhone, users who want to switch from the iPhone must abandon their Apple Watch and buy a new Android-compatible smart watch.
