Here's What We Know

Reuters news agency reports that the US has authorised the Netherlands and Denmark to provide the Ukrainian Air Force with their F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft. Deliveries of the fourth-generation fighters will begin after Ukrainian pilots undergo a training programme.

The US has formally assured Denmark and the Netherlands that Washington will expedite approval of all third-party requests to transfer F-16s to Ukraine. Antony Blinken sent letters to his counterparts in Copenhagen and Amsterdam saying that all requests would be approved.

The Secretary of State emphasised the importance of Ukraine being able to defend itself against ongoing Russian aggression and violations of its sovereignty. He said approval of third-party requests would allow Ukraine to take full advantage of the new capabilities as soon as the first group of pilots completes training.
