The Netherlands is switching to the F-35 Lightning II and has agreed to give Ukraine almost all of its fourth-generation F-16 Fighting Falcon fighters
Ukraine will be able to receive almost all US F-16 Fighting Falcon fighter jets that are in service with the Royal Netherlands Air Force, Defence Minister Kajsa Ollongren has said. This was announced by Defence Minister Kajsa Ollongren.
Here's What We Know
This is a story about how US fifth-generation F-35 Lightning II fighters are helping Ukraine get older Western aircraft. The Netherlands is switching to the F-35, and as such is willing to give Ukraine almost all of its F-16 Fighting Falcon.
Kajsa Ollongren did not say exactly how many fighter jets will be handed over to Ukraine. However, she officially stated that her country has 42 aircraft in service. Several fighter jets will be used as part of a training programme for Ukrainian pilots and maintenance personnel, while the rest will be sent to Ukraine.
The defence minister added that Ukraine would receive the F-16s after the conditions were met. It is believed that it is about training pilots and preparing infrastructure. Denmark, by the way, said that a condition for the delivery of fighter jets is that they are not used on the territory of the Russian Federation.
