Russia's fifth-generation Su-57 fighter jet will soon receive air-to-air missiles to destroy aerial targets within a radius of 300 kilometres
The Russian fifth-generation fighter jet is soon to receive a new missile. This is reported by local media with reference to a source in the defence industry complex.
Here's What We Know
The Su-57 is the only fifth-generation fighter in service with the Russian Federation's aerospace forces. It has supersonic cruising speed, stealth coating, and weapons are installed inside the fuselage.
The aircraft now uses missiles with a range of up to 120 kilometres. In the near future, it will be armed with air-to-air missiles that will allow the aircraft to shoot down aerial threats within 300 kilometres.
What exactly we are talking about is not yet specified. However, the Su-57 is likely to be armed with R-37M missiles. So far, they can only be launched by the fourth-generation MiG-31 fighter. The integration of the R-37M missile on the Su-57 was reported five years ago. It can hit targets at an altitude of 15 metres to 25 km.
