Europe's largest airline Lufthansa will help build and maintain the US fifth-generation F-35 Lighting II fighter jets in Germany

German concern Rheinmetall will cooperate with Lufthansa to provide production and maintenance of F-35 Lightning II fighter jets. This is reported by Business Insider.

Here's What We Know

So far, there is no information about what role will be assigned to Lufthansa, Europe's largest aviation concern. But it is known that ESG will take part in the cooperation. The Bavarian company is engaged in the production of safety systems.

Rheinmetall did not respond to a request for comment, while Lufthansa declined to comment on the information that has emerged. The agreement is expected to be formally announced in a fortnight' time, on 19 September 2023.

Meanwhile, Rheinmetall is building a plant in Germany. The new facility will produce fuselage centre sections for the fifth-generation F-35 Lightning II fighter jets, which will enter service with the German Air Force and other countries.
